Ecocity 2009 will be the venue for presenting the VII Sustainable City Awards which were organized in collaboration with the Fòrum Ambiental Foundation.

The aims of this initiative were:

• to publicly recognize actions taken by municipal authorities geared towards sustainable development (from 2006 to 2008);
• to encourage the promotion of sustainable municipal actions at both local and State level;
• to promote the adoption of urban sustainability projects by municipal authorities;
• to create a database of good practices to serve as a reference bank for other municipalities interested in implementing actions in favour of sustainability.
